Ok. I guess that I should but this blog officially on ice for a bit. I keep having good intentions when it comes to posting on a regular basis, but just have not followed through.

To top it off, I am becoming quite frustrated at work. Job satisfaction is at an all time low, and I am not feeling the love. I won’t go in to detail (cause I am sure you don’t want to listen to me complaining) but basically I am not getting challenged with my patient assignments. Partly because there are not many sick patients in my icu, and partly because I keep getting stable/floor patients. I am not sure that the solution is going to be. I have some thinking to do, that is for sure.

Anyways, I guess that all I was going to say is that until I actually go back to being an icu nurse, or decide what step is next in my career this blog will go into the archives for now.

After many many shifts of having chronic patients, or patients waiting to go to the floor, my charge nurse decided to give me a bit of a treat for my night shifts.

A fresh post-op ruptured AAA, on pressors with a PA catheter!

I am proud to say that she is doing great. And I am also proud to say that after a year and a half since playing with a PA catheter (back during orientation buddy shifts) I not only remembered how to shoot numbers, but I also remembered what most of them meant.

Riding a motorcycle, with no helmet, when you are lacking an eye (from a previous adventure?) when far from home…. maybe not the best idea.

A recent article in the local paper made me stop and think.

Wait . . . our hospital is fighting a deficit, is laying off countless RN’s and other support staff. Our ICU is full of patients waiting for floor beds and are even being discharged home because there is such bed shortage. OR hours are being cut to save money. But we can still afford to buy 1800 (yes, one thousand eight hundred!) Apple iPads.

Does this make any sense?

Hold on . . . this is the hospital where the CEO has the highest salary of any hospital CEO in eastern Ontario. Tipping the scales at over $700 000 a year.

Aaaah . . . so nothing here is supposed to make any sense.

So facebook is a strange world…..

An acquaintance from highschool recently joined facebook and friended me.

She was always a bit of a strange girl….

This conversation with her left me shaking my head and giggling…..

J: Well, what do you do? How is your sisters and your dad?

Me: I’m a nurse in the ICU.

J: so your are a nurse? I’m a vet nurse

I guess I always sympathized with animal more

I’m not quite sure what to say at that one…..
